LAZY WHITSUNDAYS

Once we got far enough north, the Australian weather we were waiting for finally materialised. It had even started to get too hot to sunbathe by the time we got to North Queensland due to the lack of wind. So where better to catch a tan and keep cool than on a sailing trip around the beautiful Whitsunday Islands?

We went with Cruise Whitsundays on their Whitsunday Islands and Whitehaven Beach Sailing Adventure which you can find details of here on TripAdvisor. I’d highly recommend them if you’re looking for a single day option that doesn’t break the bank. The boat was really comfortable and spacious, and the food and included alcohol was a huge bonus.

After a few hours of sailing (during which time we ate as much of the free food as we could justify) we stopped off to do some snorkelling before moving on to Whitehaven Beach.

We all agreed that the time we spent on Whitehaven Beach was the highlight of the day.

The sand is 98% silica so it’s not only beautifully white, but also incredibly cool to the touch. The beach was perfect for a few games of French cricket, before jumping into the water to play piggy-in-the-middle.

This probably ended up being the best day we spent in Australia - this might have had something to do with the free booze - but and I don’t think I’ll be forgetting the experience anytime soon. Sailing the Whitsundays is an absolute must for anyone planning a trip to North Queensland. It might seem expensive to most skint-traveller-types like us, but this day was 100% worth the cost.
