INTRODUCING LILY'S LONDON

After a lot of umming and ahhing, I’ve decided to take a fresh crack at blogging. So, why Lily’s London? Why not just continue with Lily Blogs Life? Well, there are a few reasons for that.

The first reason being that I feel like Lily Blogs Life lost her way a bit. When I started Lily Blogs Life I started it as a way to express myself creatively, however, once I discovered the possibilities that blogging could offer me, I became a little starstruck. The apparent glitz and glamour of the blogging world overpowered all the reasons I started my website in the first place. I stressed about my Instagram theme, my follower count, my engagement, and most of all my personal ‘brand’, far more than I wanted to.

Idolising celebrity bloggers that I perceived as successful became really detrimental to the simple pleasure I took in writing. My blog started to feel false and impersonal, which was precisely the opposite of what I had intended. So it’s time to turn over a new leaf. From here on out I won’t be blogging for fame or freebies, I’ll be blogging for pleasure.

The second reason is that I think it’s important to position myself as a London-based blog. My job at Secret London is so important to me, and I really want to focus on that side of my life with this new venture. As part of my job I often go for meal reviews and where it’s not appropriate to dedicate an entire article to them on Secret London - we usually just include these restaurants within relevant roundup articles - I often think I should be showcasing them through my own blog, alongside my personal photography.

I spend every day at work writing and creating content which I’m really proud of, although as the Commercial Editor it’s content that feels (rather predictably) impersonal. So I’d like to be able to create a bit of London-focused content that’s written in my own voice, not the voice of whichever brand I’m promoting at the time.

Anyway, I’ll stop chewing your ear off and get to it: welcome to Lily’s London. I hope you enjoy reading what I have to say about life in this truly incredible city.
